Vacation Family Safety Tips

VACATION SAFETY TIPS

No Vacation From Safety!

Even though school's out for summer, that doesn’t mean you and your kids can take a break from safety. The National SAFE KIDS Campaign found that nearly half of all injury-related childhood deaths occur from May to August. So keep the following tips in mind while you and your family get a little R&R this summer.

-Kids: When you're in a different city or country,
make sure you know the full name of the hotel
or motel where you're staying in case you get
separated from your parents.

-Parents: If possible, travel during the daylight
hours.

-Kids: Don't wander away from the group. Stay
alert and keep up.

-Parents: Make sure there are enough adults to
supervise children at an amusement park or
museums since it's easier to get separated in
large crowds.

-Kids: Make sure you know your parents' full names and cell phone numbers in case you get separated from them on a trip.

-Parents: Teach kids their address, phone number, and how to dial 911 in case you get separated.

-Kids: If you get separated from your parent or guardian, don't go looking for them by yourself. Try to find an adult in a uniform or at an information booth.

-Parents: Designate a central meeting spot at a park or mall in case you and your kids are separated. Also, travel with recent photos of your children to show in case they are lost.

-Kids: Don't answer the hotel or motel door without a parent or guardian's permission.

FOR KIDS

Getting separated from your parents can be really scary. And if you're in a busy airport or crowded amusement park, it can be even scarier. But you should NEVER go off looking for your parents by yourself. Instead find an adult in a uniform or at an information booth and let them know that you need help. To help find your parents quickly and safely, fill out the postcard below and keep it in your pocket while you're on vacation.

FOR PARENTS

It's easy to lose track of what your kids are doing or even where they are when you're racing to catch a flight or trying to buy tickets for the whole family. But if you do happen to get separated DON'T PANIC. Look for an information booth or security desk for assistance, and in addition to a recent photo of your child, fill out the information postcard below and keep it in your wallet while you're on vacation. Keeping your child's vital information in one place is the one thing you don't want to leave home without.
